One of my favored artists consists of a guy by the name of Common. I remember the first song he did that made me become a true fan of his. I was in 6th grade and I was in California riding around with my cousins and this funky beat comes on with an old school soul kind of vibe. I immediately loved the sound of the drums and instrumentals. Then I heard the content of his words. I thought...this is the kind of hip hop I like for some reason. I was so young but I knew this kind of music was dope. Now, I still listen to this song like I was in California, still amazed by the music and the meaning of the song. This song symbolizes exactly what I want to be as a significant other to someone. Thank You Common (and Bobby Caldwell of course for the dope chorus sample) for writing "The Light".
